Just like tuning up your vehicle before a road trip helps avoid breakdowns in the middle of nowhere, prepping your AC prevents issues from cropping up just when you need it most!
So, let’s walk through essential spring system preparations to keep your home feeling comfy all season long:
Inspect outdoor unit panels
Make sure all panels and components on the condenser exterior are present and properly aligned – and that nothing looks out of place! Loose or missing panels pose safety hazards and can lead to damage of electrical components. A quick once-over should do the trick.
Clean outdoor coil
Use a garden hose to gently wash away any dust, leaves, and debris that may have accumulated on the condenser coils over winter so that air can flow freely. Packed landscaping mulch or blocked ventilation openings under the unit can also impede performance.
Replace air filters
Dirty air filters from winter capture far more dust and allergens. Pop in a fresh set before cooling season starts so airflow remains free and clear, keeping your system operating cleanly and efficiently.
Inspect drainage line
Check that the white PVC condensate drainage pipe that carries water away from the evaporator coil flows properly outside. Clogs can cause water to back up and flood your home or electronics. Ballard can take care of the clog if there is one!
Clean vents
Use a vacuum hose attachment to clear any pet hair or dust particles collected in the supply and return vents inside your house over the winter, which could block cold airflow.
Test thermostat
Time to turn the AC on! Feel the air at the vents after a few minutes to ensure nice, cool air is flowing freely.
